Nationals Not Ruling Out Ryan Zimmerman
4 years agoWashington Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo said that he's not ruling out a reunion with first baseman Ryan Zimmerman despite the fact that the team just traded for first baseman Josh Bell on Christmas Eve. Washington is still trying to add a quality right-handed hitter, although it seems unlikely that Zimmerman would fit into the team's plans, especially since it's expected that the National League won't continue to utilize the full-time designated hitter in 2021. Zimmerman has been with the team since their first year in D.C. in 2005, but he didn't play in 2020 due to concerns over COVID-19. Bell will likely be the team's starting first baseman on most days, but Zimmerman could fill a backup role off the bench. The 37-year-old hit .257/.321/.415 over 190 plate appearances in 2019 and would likely only see occasional starts against lefties, regardless of where he lands.
