4 years agoThere is mutual interest between the New York Mets and free-agent second baseman DJ LeMahieu and the Mets do have salary shedding deals that they could make if they really want to pull off another big signing, but it remains a tricky fit. Following the blockbuster acquisition of shortstop Francisco Lindor and starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco last week, LeMahieu's price tag would push the team over the luxury tax threshold for the 2021 season. A LeMahieu addition would allow the Mets to move utility man Jeff McNeil to the outfield, while Dominic Smith could serve as the regular designated hitter again if there's a DH in the National League in 2021. LeMahieu won a second batting crown last season and finished fourth in the American League MVP voting in 2019.
