Mitch Haniger Has Setback, Will Have Surgery
5 years agoSeattle Mariners outfielder Mitch Haniger had a setback and will have core surgery. As a result, he will likely miss most of spring training and start the season late. The injury stems from a surgery to fix a ruptured testicle last season, and a hernia or a core injury were possibilities if Haniger pushed his recovery and rehab. After earning his first All-Star bid in 2018 by slashing .285/.366/.493 with 26 home runs and 93 RBI, Haniger was a huge disappointment for fantasy owners in 2019 when he played in just 63 games due to injury. He also hit a weak .220/.314/.463 with only 15 home runs and 32 RBI. His latest injury setback will assure that many owners will stay completely away from him in fantasy drafts. Haniger is still worth taking a flier on because of his power, but there's now a good chance he won't be ready for Opening Day.
