Defenseman Mike Green was traded from Detroit to Edmonton for Kyle Brodziak and a conditional fourth-round pick. Green is on an expiring contract and now joins an Oilers blueline in need of more offensive punch. Green's 11 points in 48 games are a steep drop from his 32 points per season average of the previous three seasons but give him the fourth-most points among Edmonton defensemen this season. Once upon a time, Green was one of the league's most prolific offensive defensemen, but that time has long passed, and he should be nothing more than an occasional secondary scoring option for Edmonton. If Green can secure consistent time on Edmonton's power-play unit, then he could be worth a play in some daily formats on occasion, but as of now, there is no reason to rush to the waiver wire.--Russ Ivanac - RotoBaller
