Michael Lorenzen Could Move To Bullpen
1 year agoWith the Philadelphia Phillies planning to go back to a five-man starting rotation after Monday's doubleheader, either left-hander Cristopher Sanchez or right-hander Michael Lorenzen could be moved to the bullpen. Lorenzen made his first All-Star team this year as a starter, but he spent years as a late-inning reliever earlier in his career. The 31-year-old made his 25th start of the year on Monday and has thrown a career-high 148 2/3 innings in the big leagues in 2023. Moving him to a relief role should allow his arsenal to pop in shorter bursts, and he could even be tried out as a late-inning setup man. Lorenzen has gone 9-9 this year with a 4.06 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 107 K's this year between the Phillies and Detroit Tigers, but a move to the bullpen down the stretch would be bad news for his fantasy value.
