Michael Chavis Belts Grand Slam Monday
5 years agoBoston Red Sox infielder Michael Chavis hit his first career grand slam in a 10-8 win over Toronto on Monday. The first inning homer was his only hit in the game, but he made it count. After a June where he struck out in 42% of his at-bats, the rookie already has two home runs and eight runs batted in during July. He's been the everyday first baseman since late-May but with Mitch Moreland (quad strain) set to return in the near future, it may allow the Red Sox the chance to rest Chavis a bit down the stretch. The 23-year-old is hitting .259 with a .795 OPS, along with 16 home runs and 52 RBI. Boston's front office obviously loves the kid and will continue to find ways to get him into the lineup, but high strikeout totals seem to be holding him back after the hot start to his career. He's an everyday lock in AL-only formats but his mixed league value is dependent upon that dates pitching matchup and your roster construction.
