Mets To Use Six-Man Rotation At Times In 2023
2 years agoThe New York Mets added pitchers Justin Verlander, Kodai Senga and Jose Quintana this offseason to address their starting-rotation needs. It puts internal options like David Peterson and Tylor Megill on the outside looking in, but the Mets are expected to use a six-man rotation at times this year. They're likely to add a sixth starter to the mix anytime in the schedule where the Mets play on more than 10 straight days. New York's slated Opening Day rotation has an average age of 36, and Senga is used to pitching just once a week in Japan. In addition to Peterson and Megill, Joey Lucchesi and Elieser Hernandez could be in the running to join the rotation when the Mets go to six arms. Verlander and Max Scherzer haven't pitched 14 times on regular rest since the 2019 season due to injuries.
