Mets Not Ruling Starling Marte Out For Wild-Card Series
2 years agoNew York Mets skipper Buck Showalter isn't ruling out outfielder Starling Marte (finger) for the wild-card playoff series against the San Diego Padres this weekend. "I'll never say never," Showalter said. Marte will attempt more baseball activities on Wednesday, which will give the team a better idea of his availability for the first series of the postseason. The 33-year-old veteran outfielder has been out since Sept. 6, so even if he's somehow able to make the club's wild-card series roster, it remains to be seen if he'll actually crack the starting lineup, especially with Brandon Nimmo playing really well in center field to close out the regular season. But the Mets certainly would love to have Marte available for the playoffs after he hit .292/.347/.468 with an .814 OPS, 16 homers, 63 RBI, 76 runs and 18 steals in 466 at-bats in 2022.
