Mets Calling Up Gary Sanchez
Gary Sanchez from the minors, according to sources, and he'll be on the team's active roster on Friday. Sanchez has an opt-out clause in his minor-league contract for Friday, so the team apparently doesn't want to let him go just yet. The 30-year-old former New York Yankee backstop was hitting .208 16-for-77 with a home run and 13 RBI with Triple-A Syracuse and Triple-A Sacramento in 23 games this year, but he had gone 7-for-22 (.318) with a homer and five RBI for Syracuse before the Mets called him up. Although Francisco Alvarez was apparently dinged up in Wednesday's extra-inning game, New York also has Michael Perez. Unless Alvarez requires a trip to the injured list, Sanchez probably won't see much playing time.
