Melvin Gordon III Held In Check In Week 2
3 years agoDenver Broncos running back Melvin Gordon III had 13 carries -- the exact same amount as rookie Javonte Williams -- for 31 yards (2.4 yards per tote) in the 23-13 Week 2 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Gordon also caught both of his targets for an additional 38 yards. Gordon and Williams carried the ball the same amount of times, but Williams was much more effective with those carries, gaining 33 more yards than Gordon on the ground. Other than a 70-yard touchdown scamper in Week 1 against the Giants, Gordon has been much less productive than his rookie backfield mate. While the Denver coaching staff will likely continue to mix and match the two backs, Williams is looking like the better season-long asset after two games. Both running backs will have a juicy matchup in Week 3 against the New York Jets.
