Matthew Liberatore Picked For Futures Game
3 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals left-hander Matthew Liberatore was among 50 players selected to the All-Star Futures Game on July 11. The 21-year-old was 1-0 with a 1.86 ERA in the Baseball Americas tournament while pitching for the U.S. team that qualified for the Olympics. Liberatore is also 2-4 with a 4.62 ERA in seven starts for Triple-A Memphis this year. The Cardinals top prospect, per MLB Pipeline, has a nice four-pitch mix that includes three future above-average offerings in his fastball, curveball and changeup. The 6-foot-4 southpaw does a good job of repeating his delivery to help him throw consistent strikes, and with more physical development in the minors, he has the potential to be a front-line starting pitcher at the next level.
