Matt Breida Could Get Cut This Summer
3 years agoBuffalo Bills running back Matt Breida gives the team a home run-hitting element in the backfield, but his place on the final 53-man roster this summer isn't secure heading into training camp after he inked a one-year deal with the team in the offseason. Breida must beat out Antonio Williams and Christian Wade for the final spot in the running backs room. Devin Singletary and Zack Moss are locks, and the Bills might not carry more than three backs, considering how often they pass the ball. Taiwan Jones is expected to make the team because of his standout special teams skills. Breida will give himself a much better shot if he can make himself valuable on special teams, but he also might have a leg up on Williams and Wade because of his experience and elite speed. The 26-year-old made a name for himself with the San Francisco 49ers from 2017-19 and has also proved he can catch the ball, but he played in just 12 games (one start) with the Miami Dolphins last year and had only 59 carries for 254 yards (career-low 4.3 yards per carry) and no touchdowns. He'll also be making the league minimum in 2021. The No. 3 job in Buffalo should be Breida's to lose, but he'll have to perform in training camp and stay healthy in order to secure his spot. Because he's not a lock to make the roster as things currently stand, Breida shouldn't be drafted in most 12-team fantasy leagues.
