Martin Perez Expected To Make San Diego Debut On Saturday
Martin Perez is expected to debut with his new team on Saturday evening as the Padres play host to the Colorado Rockies. The southpaw carried a poor 5.20 ERA, 1.65 WHIP, and a 32:63 BB:K ratio across 83 innings in the Steel City earlier this season. The 33-year-old currently sits with a high 43.3% hard-hit rate and 8.7% barrel rate, which suggests these struggles could continue in the second half. Perez currently sits as the fifth man in the San Diego rotation but may shift to a long relief role once Joe Musgrove (elbow) returns from the 60-day IL. Perez could be a sneaky play in DFS, however, as he faces the Colorado Rockies, who hold a team .234 AVG, which is the fifth-worst mark against left-handed pitching this season.
