Mark Ingram 2021 Outlook: No Longer an NFL Caliber Player
4 years agoI have no idea what the Texans are doing and, quite frankly, neither do they. David Johnson is certainly a far cry from the elite talent he was back in 2016, but he showed in 2020 that he can still play at a high enough level. The Texans brought him back for 2021. The team also signed Phillip Lindsay, the former UDFA that opened his career with back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons. The Texans also brought in former Browns running back, Dontrell Hilliard, who is serviceable as depth. Why exactly did they feel compelled to sign 31-year-old Mark Ingram, who is so completely washed that he was a healthy scratch four games down the stretch last season and in both of the Ravens' playoff games? Ingram has had an excellent career, outperforming his athleticism for a decade. But it's over. Ingram is done. He can't play football anymore. It seems unfathomable that the Texans would keep him on the roster, especially since his cap hit is only $500k, but this is a completely incompetent franchise. Regardless of Ingram's role, he's definitively behind DJ and Lindsay on the depth chart. Even if Ingram ascends due to injury, he's incapable of producing at this point in his career. Ingram should not be drafted in any league format of any size.
