Boston Red Sox infielder Marcelo Mayer (wrist) will receive an anti-inflammation injection in his right wrist on Saturday, manager Alex Cora announced. "We have to wait three days to see if it works," Cora said. "And then he starts doing baseball activities and see how he reacts to it." With Mayer in limbo for the next few days, his timeline to return remains unclear. The 22-year-old rookie amassed 144 plate appearances and hit .228/.272/.402 with four homers, 10 RBI, and 20 runs scored in 44 games before the Red Sox placed him on the 10-day injured list on July 24.--Connor Byrne
