Boston Red Sox shortstop prospect Marcelo Mayer (wrist) was placed on the injured list at Single-A Salem due to a right wrist sprain. Mayer continues to experience soreness in his wrist and was sent to Boston for additional testing. The team's No. 1 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, has been solid in his first 17 games for Salem, hitting .333/.386/.507 with a home runs, 13 RBI, nine runs scored and four stolen bases in 83 plate appearances. Hopefully, the 19-year-old's wrist injury isn't too serious. He was the top-rated prospect in the 2021 draft and was the best hitter and defender available, going to Boston fourth overall. Mayer has a mature approach at the plate and excellent bat-to-ball skills from the left side of the plate. He should move quickly through Boston's farm system once he recovers from his wrist injury.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerRead More News
