Manny Machado Carries The Offense Friday
1 year agoSan Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado carried the team's offense on Friday as they continued their winning streak in a 4-2 win over the visiting St. Louis Cardinals. Machado finished the contest 4-for-4 with two home runs, three RBI and two runs scored. The two-homer game helped Machado reach the 30-homer mark for the seventh time in his career, and he now is hitting .253 (133-for-525) on the year with 87 RBI, three stolen bases and 75 runs scored in 134 games in addition to the 30 round-trippers. The 31-year-old is going to need offseason elbow surgery, but as long as the Friars aren't eliminated from postseason contention, he's going to serve as the team's designated hitter. In 15 starts in September, he has hit .302 (19-for-63) with five homers, two doubles, nine RBI and 11 runs scored.
