Mallex Smith Needs Help To Become A Regular
7 years agoTampa Bay Rays outfielder Mallex Smith is one of the big losers in the trade that sent Evan Longoria to the Giants but brought Denard Span to the Rays. With the addition of Span, the Rays now have him, Corey Dickerson, Steven Souza and Kevin Kiermaier for three outfield spots ahead of Smith. Now, Dickerson is likely to play a decent amount at designated hitter but it still leads to the conclusion that Smith may need an injury or the trade of someone ahead of him to get regular playing time for Tampa Bay. Mallex Smith is a career .256 hitter with a lot of speed. If he starts, he can be a cheap source of steals in deeper leagues. Otherwise, he is mostly a very deep league of AL-only type player.
