Lorenzo Cain To Begin Rehab Assignment Later This Week
Milwaukee Brewers manager Craig Counsell said that outfielder Lorenzo Cain (hamstring) will leave the team at the end of the series with the New York Mets to join Triple-A Nashville on a rehab assignment that will extend through next week's All-Star break. Cain has been out for over a month now with hamstring and quadriceps injuries, so the Brewers will give him plenty of time in the minor leagues. The 35-year-old veteran is unlikely to be much of an asset on the base paths at this point in his career, and he was hitting just .223 (23-for-103) with three home runs, nine RBI and four steals in 31 games before his injuries struck. A left-right platoon could develop between Cain and Jackie Bradley Jr. in center field when Cain is healthy enough to return.
