Lamar Miller 2018 Outlook: Perennially Overrated Player Finally Properly Priced
6 years agoFor the past two years, Lamar Miller has been overrated, both in fantasy and as a running back. He's not a good football player. He's fine. He's Replacement level. He's all this speed and 86th percentile agility, but absolutely no wiggle. His 14.6% juke rate, 56th in the league, is indicative of his inability to use his physical gifts to succeed as a runner. He was going to lose his job to D'Onta Foreman had Foreman not torn his achilles. But Foreman did tear his achilles and is unlikely to be anywhere near 100% to start the season. As a result, Miller is locked in as the primary back in Houston. Give him volume in a Deshaun Watson led offense and he will be just fine - a solid RB2 - exactly what he's always been.
The difference this year is the price finally reflects that. No longer must you spend a top 36 pick on Miller. You can secure his services as a high floor, low ceiling guy in the fifth round. Miller is definitely not someone you should target in the sense that you should plan your draft around acquiring him, but he's a viable fall back plan if you go wide receiver heavy early or your other running back targets get sniped.
