Kyle Freeland To Pitch In World Baseball Classic
2 years agoColorado Rockies left-hander Kyle Freeland has been officially named to the roster for Team USA for the upcoming 2023 World Baseball Classic. He will be replacing New York Yankees left-handed starter Nestor Cortes, who had to drop out after suffering a Grade 2 hamstring strain. The 29-year-old Freeland had a 4.53 ERA (4.21 FIP), 1.41 WHIP and weak 17.1 percent strikeout rate in 31 starts covering 174 2/3 innings for the Rockies in his sixth season with the team in 2022. Like most Rockies pitchers, Freeland was much better on the road than at hitter-friendly Coors Field last year, and that's likely to continue being the case. The low strikeout numbers make him a pitcher to avoid in most mixed leagues.
