Kyle Freeland To Pitch In World Baseball Classic
Kyle Freeland has been officially named to the roster for Team USA for the upcoming 2023 World Baseball Classic. He will be replacing New York Yankees left-handed starter Nestor Cortes, who had to drop out after suffering a Grade 2 hamstring strain. The 29-year-old Freeland had a 4.53 ERA (4.21 FIP), 1.41 WHIP and weak 17.1 percent strikeout rate in 31 starts covering 174 2/3 innings for the Rockies in his sixth season with the team in 2022. Like most Rockies pitchers, Freeland was much better on the road than at hitter-friendly Coors Field last year, and that's likely to continue being the case. The low strikeout numbers make him a pitcher to avoid in most mixed leagues.
