Kyle Finnegan Secures Another Save for Tigers
Kyle Finnegan moved to 3-for-3 in save opportunities as a member of the team in a 6-5 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Friday. Finnegan tossed a perfect ninth inning with two strikeouts and needed only 10 pitches to rack up his 23rd save of the season. The Tigers acquired Finnegan from the Washington Nationals at the July 31 trade deadline, and he has since delivered 3 1/3 scoreless, one-hit innings with five strikeouts and one walk. Will Vest was the Tigers' closer when they traded for Finnegan, but he hasn't netted a save since July 20 and has made just one appearance since a poor outing against the Philadelphia Phillies last Saturday. At least for now, it appears Finnegan has taken over as Detroit's closer. The 33-year-old has been far from dominant this season, though, evidenced by his middling 4.04 ERA and low strikeout total (37) in 42 1/3 innings.
