The Kansas City Royals announced that they have placed left-hander Kris Bubic (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list with a strained rotator cuff. The team recalled right-hander Jonathan Bowlan from Triple-A Omaha to take Bubic's roster spot. Bubic started a 6-4 loss to the Cleveland Guardians on Saturday and exited with shoulder discomfort after allowing four runs (three earned) on three hits and four walks over 2 2/3 innings. It was a rare poor performance for Bubic, who spent last year as a reliever and has been a revelation since moving back into the rotation this season. The first-time All-Star has gone 8-7 with a 2.55 ERA, a 1.18 WHIP, and 116 strikeouts against 39 walks in 116 1/3 innings. While losing Bubic is a major blow to a KC team that's vying for a playoff spot, the club figures to be extra cautious with the 27-year-old during his recovery. He's already just 14 innings from tying the career-high 130 he amassed in 2021.--Connor Byrne
