Kodai Senga Says He'll Be Ready For Opening Day
2 years agoNew York Mets right-hander Kodai Senga (finger) say he will "for sure" be ready for his first start of the 2023 regular season despite dealing with right index finger tendinitis. Senga said through his interpreter that he is taking things day by day but could throw right now if he wanted to. He's merely exercising caution with Opening Day quickly approaching. The injury is a result of the 30-year-old adjusting to the different baseballs in the United States. He was scratched from his Grapefruit League outing on Saturday. One of the best pitchers in Japan in the last decade, Senga is expected to serve as New York's No. 3 starter behind Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander in his first big-league season. Injuries could be an issue, and fantasy managers shouldn't expect him to be as dominant as he was overseas.
