Kodai Senga Might Pitch On Sunday
2 years agoThe New York Mets are considering starting right-hander Kodai Senga on four days of rest this Sunday against the Toronto Blue Jays for the first time, according to manager Buck Showalter. Senga has only pitched on extra rest so far in his first season in the big leagues since coming over from Japan. The Mets plan to do some testing on Senga later this week to gauge the situation. The 30-year-old has gotten five days between all of his 10 starts so far in 2023, and he's contributed a 3.44 ERA (3.85 FIP), 1.34 WHIP, 31 walks and 70 K's in 55 innings pitched. Sunday's start would be at home, where the Japanese hurler has excelled to the tune of a 1.20 ERA in five starts. He's also coming off a phenomenal performance against the Phillies on Tuesday, when he threw seven shutout innings with nine punchouts.
