Kirk Cousins Is Steady When Looking Downfield
4 years agoMinnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins improved his completion percentage over expectation (+9.1 percent) last year after posting a completion percentage over expectation of +6.4 percent in 2019. His passer rating on deep balls dropped slightly from 121.5 to 114.6 and his touchdown-to interception ratio went from 9:1 to 8:2, but Cousins has remained very steady when looking downfield. He targeted receivers in tight windows on around one-fifth of his deep throws in 2019, but he threw to pass-catchers in tight windows on 44.6 percent of his deep passes last year. The 32-year-old still led the NFL in deep passing yards from snaps taken under center in 2020 with 500 and tied for the lead in deep passing touchdowns on play-action passes. Cousins won't win you any fantasy leagues as your starting QB, but he's a solid QB2 with QB1 streaming consideration in the right matchups.
