Kirk Cousins 2018 Outlook: Better Team, Better Weapons, Worse Fantasy QB
6 years agoHow does this make any sense? Kirk Cousins goes from throwing to Terrelle Pryor, Jamison Crowder, and Josh Doctson to throwing to the best WR duo in the league in Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs. That's clearly an uprade. Cousins will undoubtedly have his high end QB1 games. When it is all said and done, I fully expect Cousins to finish as a fantasy QB1, but I can't advise drafting him before the latter rounds.
There won't be an issue with how many fantasy points Cousins scores, but rather how he scores them. The Vikings are a vastly superior team to any version of the Redskins that Cousins was starting on. Cousins projects to be very game script dependent this season. In games the Vikings trail, Cousins will likely light it up. In games the Vikings lead, they will lean on Dalvin Cook and Cousins' pass attempts may be consistently under 30. If you draft Cousins as your QB1, be sure to pair him with someone else and do your best to predict game script. I like Cousins as a quarterback, but if he's your sole QB, it may be a frustrating season with 25+ point weeks paired with sub 15 point weeks.
