Kirby Yates Poaches Save
7 years agoSan Diego Padres reliever Kirby Yates secured his second save of the season Saturday against the Miami Marlins. Manager Andy Green flipped the roles of Yates and closer Brad Hand this afternoon, pitching Hand in the eighth and tapping Yates to close out the game. The move was curious, as Hand has recorded multiple one-plus inning saves and shuts down both right and left-handed batters. Yates has had a strong season with a 1.13 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 10.9 K/9 but it doesn't appear that Hand's job is in legitimate jeopardy. Yates can be counted on in fantasy for his rock-solid ratios and strikeouts with the occasional random win or save opportunity.
