Kevin Gausman To Start Game 1 Of Wild-Card Series
1 year agoThe Toronto Blue Jays announced that right-hander Kevin Gausman will start Game 1 of the wild-card series against the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday. This was the obvious outcome once the Blue Jays scratched Gausman from the regular season finale on Sunday after they had already clinched a playoff spot. An All-Star for the second time in his career this year, Gausman was a starting rotation anchor for the Blue Jays with a 12-9 record, 3.16 ERA (2.97 FIP), 1.18 WHIP, 55 walks and a league-high 237 strikeouts in 185 innings over his 31 starts. The 32-year-old veteran struggled in his two starts against the Twins this year, allowing seven earned runs on 11 hits while walking nine and striking out 12 in 10 innings. However, Gausman is coming off 13 shutout innings in his last two starts (both against the New York Yankees).
