Justin Verlander Dominates Through Seven Scoreless Innings
Houston Astros starter Justin Verlander went seven scoreless innings and struck out eight batters, allowing just one hit, as the Astros defeated the Rays 6-2 to take Game 1 of the American League Division Series. The 36-year-old was dominant from start to finish, carrying a no-hitter into the fifth inning and picking up his eighth career ALDS victory. Verlander would be in line to start a potential fifth game against the Rays, but if the series does not go the distance, the 36-year-old would likely open the Championship series between either the Twins or Yankees. The Astros will start right-hander Gerrit Cole in Game 2, and he will go up against Rays left-hander Blake Snell.
