Jose Soriano Punches Out 12 in No-Decision in Stellar Start
Jose Soriano tossed seven innings of one-run ball, but did not factor into Tuesday's 2-1 win against the Athletics. The 26-year-old yielded two hits and two walks, striking out 12 in the dominant outing. Soriano landed 71 of 110 pitches for strikes, and induced an eye-popping 22 swings and misses for an elite 42% CSW. He yielded nary a hit through five innings, but the A's got to him in the sixth when Brent Rooker doubled home teammate Max Schuemann, who walked three batters prior. Still, it was a fantastic showing for him, as he easily set a new season-high in strikeouts. He's had issues with free passes this season, inflating his WHIP (1.50), but holds a respectable 3.86 ERA through 14 appearances (79 1/3 innings) and one of the best ground ball rates in the league (66.7%).
