Jorge Soler Expected To Become Main DH
6 years agoThe Kansas City Royals are making a big move, and it will push outfielder Jorge Soler into the main designated hitter role. The Royals are calling up their top second base prospect, Nicky Lopez, and that's going to shuffle a few guys around. One of those moves is that Whit Merrifield will move to right field primarily, pushing Soler into being the main DH. Soler is on pace to hit 36 home runs this season, but he's embracing the approach of mighty swings and nothing else. He's striking out 32% of the time, hitting just .248 on the season, and walking in just 7% of his chances. These splits aren't usually sustainable, so owners should expect long cold snaps in Soler's future, but as long as he keeps hitting bombs, he'll likely see at-bats just about every day.
