Jordan Montgomery Falls Just Shy Of Quality Start

New York Yankees starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery put together another solid performance in Thursday's loss to the Red Sox. Montgomery quieted the Red Sox offense for 5 2/3 innings, allowing just three hits and one walk while striking out six batters. He generated 13 whiffs, 12 of them on his curveball-changeup combo, two pitches that he had excellent command of Thursday. Montgomery only tossed 83 pitches and was one out shy of recording his third straight quality start but was pulled, saying that he felt fatigue starting to set in in the sixth inning. He has pitched well enough to earn the win in each of his last three starts but has somehow ended up empty-handed, as the Yankee offense hasn't supported him this season. Montgomery will take on the Rays next, having won each of his last two starts against them.
