Atlanta Braves shortstop prospect John Gil (nose) began a rehab assignment with the team's Florida Complex League (FCL) affiliate on Thursday. The Braves' 12th-ranked prospect broke his nose on a slide into third base on July 10 and has been out ever since. In the final game of the FCL regular season, Gil went 0-for-2 with a pair of walks and a run scored. It is unclear if he'll head back to Single-A Augusta after this, but that is where he was when the injury occurred, slashing .225/.321/290 on the year. While he doesn't offer much power yet, the 19-year-old could add more as he matures, and through 70 games this season, he's walking as much as he's striking out (39:39 BB:K), while recording 38 steals. The 6-foot-1 Dominican is a prospect to keep an eye on, as he has the potential to be an all-around solid hitter with blazing speed, which are all fantasy-friendly traits.--Jarod RuppRead More News
