John Fox Joins Indianapolis As Senior Defensive Assistant
3 years agoThe Indianapolis Colts are bringing on long-time coach John Fox as a senior defensive assistant. Fox served as head coach of the Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos, and Chicago Bears over a 15-year period, but has not been in a locker room since 2017. The 67-year-old took time away after a long career but got the call from Colts head coach Frank Reich for a return. "He's just there to serve," Reich said. "It's like, 'Hey, I'm not here to take over. What role do you want me to play? How can I assist? Do you want me to help put a little bit of emphasis on third down or red zone? I'll do whatever you want me to do.'" Gus Bradley will be serving in his first year as the team's defensive coordinator, and it remains to be seen if Fox will have a meaningful contribution to the defense. The Colts finished 16th in yards allowed per game (343.2) and ninth in points allowed per game (21.5).
