The Tampa Bay Rays are moving closer towards having one of their regulars back in the lineup. Joey Wendle, who started the club's first four games before suffering a left hamstring strain, successfully took part in an extended spring training game Wednesday. The 28-year-old played five innings, starting at second base and recording two hits in five plate appearances. The Rays now plan on having him play shortstop and third base on Thursday as he slowly readies for a return to the majors. Wendle played in 139 games last year, batting .300 and driving in 61 runs.
