3 weeks agoCincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto (back) has ramped up his baseball activities this weekend, but he's not yet ready to return from the injured list. “I still have to progress my hitting and make sure from a defensive perspective I build up the volume and make sure I can handle that load,” Votto said. “The first half of the IL was mostly resting to give my back injury a little bit of time. Now I have to start preparing for playing again, so it’s going to require quite a few reps.” Votto has been out since Aug. 18 and was hitting .248 with eight doubles, four homers and 17 RBI in 32 games since the All-Star break. He's definitely shown his age this year and won't be on the radar of those in mixed leagues when he returns. Josh VanMeter, Derek Dietrich and Kyle Farmer have filled in at first base with Votto sidelined.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
