Jimmy Garoppolo Officially A DNP Wednesday
3 years agoSan Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (thumb) was officially listed as a DNP for Wednesday's practice. Garoppolo is dealing with a Grade 3 sprain of his right thumb and also has a small fracture in there, but there's a chance he'll be able to give it a go in Week 17 against the Houston Texans. The 30-year-old doesn't need surgery to fix his digit, but his accuracy could be compromised on Sunday if he plays, much like it was after he suffered the injury in last Thursday's loss to the Tennessee Titans. The matchup is a nice one for Jimmy G, but if he plays, he should be downgraded as a QB2. The 49ers could lean heavily on their ground game with rookie running back Elijah Mitchell (knee) getting closer to returning after a three-game absence. And if Garoppolo doesn't get cleared, rookie Trey Lance would make his second start of the year, although he'd also be a shaky QB2 play because of his inexperience.
