Jets Likely Stuck With Zach Wilson As Backup
2 years agoNew York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson is likely to be the team's backup QB in 2023. "He's our No. 2. I really still think Zach has a future in this league to be a really good quarterback. I really do. He has the work ethic. He has the mindset, and he's coming in here to attack it … we're counting on him to be a fixture here for us," head coach Robert Saleh said at the NFL owners meetings last week. The Jets are fully expected to eventually trade for Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers. Right now, Wilson and Chris Streveler are the only other QBs on the roster. Despite being a former No. 2 overall pick in 2021 with a salary cap hit of $9.6 million this year, Wilson hasn't proved he deserves anything without competition. The Jets don't really have the money to pay three QBs a notable salary.
