Jets Defense Adds Carl Lawson
4 years agoThe New York Jets agreed to a three-year, $45 million deal with former Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Carl Lawson on Monday. The deal includes $30 million guaranteed. His $15 million-per-year average makes him the highest-paid player on the team. Lawson should bolster a pass-rushing unit that is planning to use a 4-3 front for the first time since 2005. Since 2015, the Jets have ranked 26th in the league in sacks. New York plans to use Lawson in tandem with rising star Quinnen Williams. The 25-year-old Lawson was one of the most disruptive pass-rushers in the league in 2020. He tallied 5.5 sacks and two forced fumbles, but he was constantly disrupting opposing backfields. Lawson created 10.5 sacks, which ranked seventh in the NFL, and he also ranked 14th in pass-rush win rate.
