Jarred Kelenic 2023 Fantasy Outlook: When Will He Figure Out Big-League Pitching?
2 years agoMost people probably thought Seattle Mariners outfielder Jarred Kelenic could only go up after his rough rookie season in 2021, but they turned out to be wrong. After hitting .181/.265/.350 with 14 home runs, 43 RBI, 41 runs scored and six stolen bases in 93 games in his first year with Seattle, he slashed .141/.221/.313 with seven homers, 17 RBI, 20 runs scored and five steals in 54 contests in his sophomore season. Kelenic was demoted to the minors twice in 2022 and has just been straight overmatched so far at the plate in his 147 games at the major-league level. Nobody should be giving up on the youngster just yet, though, including the Mariners. However, he's going to need to pick it up and start making more contact or he'll lose out on precious playing time in a crowded M's outfield that includes Julio Rodriguez, Teoscar Hernandez, AJ Pollock, Dylan Moore and Sam Haggerty. RotoBaller has Kelenic ranked as the No. 86 fantasy outfielder entering spring training, but he has post-hype prospect written all over him if he can figure things out offensively.
