Jameson Taillon Strikes Out Nine On Thursday
Jameson Taillon was once again unimpressive in his start Thursday against the Rays in Tampa Bay. The former Pirate allowed four earned runs across 4 2/3 innings, striking out nine. The K numbers are clearly there, but Taillon is still just getting hit around whenever hitters do make contact. We are now seven starts into Taillon's season and the flamethrower sits at a 5.40 ERA and 1.20 WHIP. It doesn't matter that his K/9 is 11.61 if teams are hitting him so hard he's a clear below-average pitcher. The Bronx is not an easy city to pitch when you aren't performing, and it's fully plausible that Taillon might be the next starter, in a long line of them, to not meet Pine Stripe expectations. Facing the Rangers his next time through, this start will be telling for how to treat Taillon moving forward.
