James McCann Likely To Open On Injured List
2 years agoBaltimore Orioles catcher James McCann (oblique) missed the final seven games of spring training after feeling soreness in his left oblique in a March 20 Grapefruit League game against the Philadelphia Phillies. The 32-year-old backstop called the injury "minor," but general manager Mike Elias said it's "likely" that McCann will begin the 2023 season on the injured list. He spent almost a month on the injured list last year with the New York Mets with a left oblique strain, although he said his current soreness is on the same side but in a different area. McCann will be backing up young catcher Adley Rutschman when he's healthy, and Anthony Bemboom should serve as Baltimore's backup to open the season with McCann on the shelf.
