Jacob deGrom To Start Game 2 Against Padres
2 years agoNew York Mets right-hander Jacob deGrom will officially get the start in Game 2 of the National League Wild-Card Series against the San Diego Padres on Saturday as the Mets look to avoid an early exit in this year's postseason. The Mets were hoping to save their ace for the National League Division Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, but after losing 7-1 to San Diego on Friday night, they will turn to the 34-year-old deGrom to try and force a Game 3 on Sunday. deGrom left his final start of the regular season early due to a blister on his hand last Friday, but it's not expected to be an issue on Saturday. He did not face the Friars at all in 2022, but he was solid in his 11 starts, going 5-4 with a 3.08 ERA (2.13 FIP), 0.75 WHIP and 102 strikeouts in 64 1/3 innings pitched.
