J.P. Crawford Takes Batting Practice
4 months agoSeattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (finger) took part in batting practice on the field before the team's series opener on Friday against the San Francisco Giants at T-Mobile Park and said that he could begin a minor-league rehab assignment as soon as Sunday or Monday. Crawford was hit on the back of his right hand on July 22, with an initial timeline projected for four to six weeks. It's the second stint on the injured list for Crawford this year after he missed around a month with an oblique strain in late April and May. When he has been on the field, the 29-year-old hasn't done much, hitting .204/.299/.347 with nine home runs, 32 RBI and five steals in 294 at-bats. Crawford could rejoin the M's as soon as late next week if he doesn't have a setback with his finger on his rehab assignment, but his return to the lineup isn't likely to suddenly fix the team's year-long offensive struggles.
