J.K. Dobbins 2020 Outlook: Talented Rookie Awaiting Opportunity
5 years agoWhenever J.K. Dobbins becomes the Ravens' primary running back, you want him on your fantasy team. I am virtually certain that will happen no later than the start of the 2021 season. The question for fantasy owners is whether it happens in 2020 and, if so, when? Mark Ingram finished as the RB11 last season. That is Dobbins' absolute floor in 2021. Playing in a Lamar Jackson offense that moves the ball at will is a fantasy situation for fantasy. The problem for Dobbins is that Ingram is still there and will open the season in the same role he had last year. It is also unclear how much Gus Edwards and Justice Hill will factor in. My guess is Edwards becomes a healthy scratch each week and Hill is seldom used. Dobbins should immediately slot in as the backup, but that's not a role conducive to fantasy production. Barring an Ingram injury, Dobbins enters the 2020 season as nothing more than a late round dart throw handcuff. However, he is the exact type of back you want to throw a dart at because of how high his ceiling is should he find his way into opportunity. On the wrong side of 30, Ingram could break down. There's also a chance Dobbins just excels when he gets the ball and forces his way into more touches.
