J.D. Martinez Expected Back Next Friday
1 year agoLos Angeles Dodgers designated hitter J.D. Martinez (groin) will take part in a simulated game on Saturday, and if that goes well, he's scheduled to join Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sunday for a few minor-league rehab games. If Martinez can avoid any setbacks from a lingering back/hamstring injury next week, the Dodgers expect him to return from the injured list next Friday, Sept. 8, for the series opener against the Washington Nationals. Given the Dodgers' big lead in the National League West, they've had the luxury of taking their time with the 36-year-old veteran slugger. He's been out since Aug. 22 but should eventually return to being LA's regular DH heading into the postseason. Martinez has had a strong first season with the Dodgers, hitting .256/.309/.547 with an .856 OPS, 25 home runs, 78 RBI and 49 runs scored in 351 at-bats.
