J.D. Martinez Absent From Wednesday's Lineup
1 year agoLos Angeles Dodgers designated hitter J.D. Martinez is taking a day off on Wednesday against the Baltimore Orioles. In his absence, Will Smith will serve as the designated hitter and bat cleanup, while Austin Barnes does the catching and hits out of the nine-hole against Orioles right-hander Dean Kremer. Martinez, who has been an All-Star in five of the last six seasons, is having a resurgent season in 2023 in his first year with the Dodgers. The 35-year-old veteran is currently batting .256 (79-for-308) with 23 home runs, 20 doubles, two triples, 66 RBI and 45 runs scored in 78 games (338 plate appearances). If he manages to avoid injuries in the second half, Martinez should easily reach the 30-homer mark for the first time since 2019.
