Is William Byron A Recommended Driver To Roster At Watkins Glen?
4 weeks agoFor the Go Bowling at the Glen at Watkins Glen International, William Byron will start the race from the 11th position, which will be the first time Byron will start outside of the top 10 at the site since the Next-Gen car's introduction in 2022. In five previous starts at WGI, Byron has one win, which he collected in last year's race, while leading 66 laps and also securing three top-10 finishes overall. In the Xfinity Series race at Watkins Glen earlier in the weekend, Byron finished 12th after leading 16 laps and won the second stage. With 27 races completed in the 2024 Cup season, Byron has three wins and 14 top-10 finishes, including a win at another road course (Circuit of the Americas). In practice, the No. 24 Chevrolet driver ranked 17th in overall lap averages and as high as 14th in 15 consecutive lap averages. Considering his favorable yet shaky history, top-notch equipment, and practice speeds at Watkins Glen, Byron is a driver who can be slotted into any lineup. However, he is best utilized in tournament lineups since there are other drivers with more upside available for the price, and he will carry lower-than-average ownership.
