Injury To Blame For Eugenio Suarez's Down Season?
4 years agoCincinnati Reds third baseman Eugenio Suarez had surgery in January of last year after a freak right shoulder injury, and it could've been largely responsible for his down 2020 season. He hit .118/.268/.235 with just four extra-base hits in his first 20 games. Suarez slashed a more respectable .246/.336/.592 with 19 extra-base hits and 13 home runs over the rest of the season in 37 games. But his overall line of .202/.312/.470 showed that he was never able to recover, and a strikingly low .214 BABIP didn't help. The good news is that the 29-year-old power hitter had a 14.4 percent barrel rate, which was a career-high and 16th-best in baseball. Back to full health, Suarez should be able to rebound in the average department as one of the better power hitters in the league. He's a top-10 fantasy third baseman and is going, on average, around pick No. 79.
